Vikings coach Brad Childress said Tuesday during his news conference what many fans have been saying since Monday night's loss at Chicago. Adrian Peterson's facemask was grabbed on the overtime play in which he had the ball punched out of his possession by Bears linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer.

The play was reviewed to make sure that Peterson wasn't down when he lost the ball, but whether Bears cornerback Zackary Bowman grabbed Peterson's facemask was not a reviewable portion of the play.

As for the fact Peterson so upset with himself after losing a fumble for the sixth time this season, Childress said he appeciates the fact his star running back is "such a competitor."

"I know that it hurts him to lose. It hurts different guys, different ways to lose," Childress said. "You see different people let it roll off their back. We talk about not letting it beat you twice or you want to take accountability for it but by the same token you have to be able to let it go and have a shorter-term memory. You've got to make the corrections. I'm sure he was disappointed. He was doing a nice job of running the football and had a couple of catches there. He was headed toward 100 yards. I believe he was going to be able to do that. I'm sure he's disappointed that he put the football on the ground there. I thought his facemask got grabbed as he put the football on the ground, which will do that sometimes but still in all he's got to keep that thing in our possession."

Childress said that Peterson actually was carrying the ball in the correct hand on the play, having it in his right hand as he ran near the right sideline. "I think the guy made a pretty good strip play," Childress said of Hillenmeyer. "I know it was just before he got to the ground but not before he got his facemask tugged pretty good."

On another note, Childress also said tight end Visanthe Shiancoe should be OK. Shiancoe appeared to injure his leg in the second half.
