Peterson on Thursday Night Football: 'Swallow for what it is and get it done'

A poll of two potential Hall of Famers for their thoughts on playing Thursday night football produced two different answers today.

Cardinals receiver and Twin Cities native Larry Fitzgerald Jr.:

"I hate Thursday night football," Fitzgerald said on a conference call. "It's no fun. You don't get the time to heal your bodies up. I would say probably two guys on each team that if we were playing on Sunday, they would have been able to go. You just don't get time to recover from the injuries that you sustained from the week before.

"It's tough. Especially for the Vikings, having to travel on the short week. It's tougher on the teams that have to travel."

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson:

"It is what it is," he said. "It would be worse if it was Thursday and then you had to play on Sunday. But every team has to do it. That's one thing you look at and swallow for what it is and get it done."

Other highlights from Peterson weekly press conference with the local media:

— On whether there is more pressure on the offense this week considering last week's performance and all the injuries on defense: "I would say a little bit. Guys want to start clicking on all cylinders. Getting the pass game going, obviously getting the run game going, of course. And guys just have to step up. Guys are approaching it that way. We'll see how things go on Thursday."

— On whether he'd run harder on his first few carries, knowing there's a chance the team would go away from the running game: "I run hard every play, so I'm just going to keep doing what I do."

— On saying after the game that the Vikings were "outcoached" (He also said they were "outplayed"): "I addressed how I felt about the situation. That was it. To me, it's like, I go back and I remember saying this on Sunday, too, but I go back through run plays. We had a kick play that's designed to go outside. I cut it back in. I look at that play and I could have took that to the house. That changed the outcome of the game. We had another outside zone play that I shortened when I should have wrapped it around. That was a higher percentage chance of taking it to the house as well. So I would rather people point that out than things about my carries, because those are opportunities that could have changed the game as well. But I guess that wouldn't cause that much of a ruffle. It just gives people to talk about."

— On why he said he should have gotten more carries: "That's the mindset of a player who wants to be great. You want to be able to when your number is called to make plays. Of course, I'd be frustrated when you think about eight carries. But we're focusing now on Arizona and trying to get this thing back on the right track."

— On what he needs to do to keep getting carries early in games: "I don't have anything to prove. I feel like I've been doing it for a long time. They know what I can do. It's about going back and watching the film and seeing what we could have done better as an offense, and you move on from there. Thats' what we did. I came in Monday with a smile on my face, ready to roll and thinking about Arizona."

— On Palmer coming back from a torn ACL twice: "I don't want to even think about it."
