Ralph Lemon
Lemon is based in New York, but he was raised in Minneapolis and has enjoyed a long creative association with Walker Art Center. His new work, "How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere?" draws from his interactions with "teacher and playmate" Walter Carter, a 102-year-old former sharecropper from Mississippi. The pair explored big issues such as personal belief systems, mortality and space travel. The multimedia work's integration of film, movement and theatrical elements, says Lemon, allows him to "walk the edge" between truth and artifice while in turn redefining his lifelong relationship to dance.
