The late Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez was known as "The Dark Nightingale," and although his career was relatively short (lasting only through the 1950s and '60s), he is considered an artistic legend and his music remains overwhelmingly popular. Jawaahir Dance Company, led by Cassandra Shore, will honor the memory of this beloved singer with a concert featuring Shore's Middle Eastern dance aesthetic. San Francisco's Georges Lammam Ensemble will offer a haunting interpretation of Abdel Halim's music, and Spanish guest artist Nesma al-Andalus marks her U.S. debut with the always sparkling Jawaahir dancers.
