Brouhaha Comedy Festival

Southern Theater curator Jon Ferguson has gathered a group of Twin Cities performance regulars, from the Guthrie to the Fringe, for this comedy-theater fest. Its six performance segments include hourlong comic plays and improv, including the new original play "The Art of Seduction" about a dorky protagonist who undergoes an epic rite of passage; Anton Chekhov's classic comedy "The Bear," a quick-witted summation of human nature; and "[Something Clever Goes Here]," a farcical take on classic comedy archetypes set to a soundtrack of Lady Gaga and Ke$ha. The most timely entry, "Igloo Glue," explores winter's effect on relationships and the psyche. More event details.

    David Alan Grier

Unlike his "In Living Color" buddy Jim Carrey, comedian Grier never made a breakout movie. Even so, he's done just about everything else since their sketch-comedy show was cancelled 15 years ago. He returned to his Broadway roots with a role in David Mamet's "Race." He wrote a book, "Barack Like Me: The Chocolate-Covered Truth." Some of his exploits haven't been so successful: the eighth season of "Dancing With the Stars" and 2008's "Chocolate News," a "Daily Show" rip-off that never got off the ground. Sounds like he's back where he belongs -- telling jokes on stage. More event details.
