Choreographer Ananya Chatterjea embarks on a new dance trilogy addressing the relationship between global environmental justice and violence against women. The first work, "Kshoy!/Decay!" (pictured), uses mud as metaphor for physical, as well as spiritual, displacement, and brings to mind recent headlines about Pakistan's floods and Haiti's earthquake. This world premiere for Ananya Dance Theatre boasts an impressive list of collaborators, including Obie Award-winning theater artist Laurie Carlos plus vocalists Pooja Goswami and Mankwe Ndosi. Expect an uncompromising yet empowering vision using strong dancing that blends the Odissi form with martial arts and yoga-based movement.
