Commuters in south Minneapolis who use Penn Avenue were greeted with road construction between 50th and 54th Streets, and the work zone will be in place for the "next few months," Minneapolis city officials said.

Crews started rebuilding four blocks of the street on Monday. The project includes removal and replacement of the pavement, curb and gutter repair, new driveway aprons, storm inlets and signal upgrades.

Access to local businesses and homes will be maintained, but other traffic will be detoured. The official route takes motorists along 50th Street to Lyndale Avenue to 54th Street and back to Penn.
