Pelosi is coming to raise cash for Walz

June 6, 2009 at 1:07AM

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be in town Sunday to tout the federal government's economic stimulus package and raise money for a fellow congressional Democrat.

Pelosi will hold a private late-morning fundraiser at a Minneapolis home on behalf of two-term Rep. Tim Walz. A couple of hours later, she will accompany another Democratic colleague, Rep. Keith Ellison, on a tour of the American Indian Opportunities Industrial Center in south Minneapolis.

A youth employment program run by the center has received $107,000 in stimulus money, which has provided 43 young people with summer jobs, according to Ellison's office.

Statewide, the stimulus bill has sent more than $17 million to Minnesota to create new jobs, the office reported.

During her one-hour visit, Pelosi plans to meet with students, employers, other elected officials and tribal leaders.
