Authorities have identified a 54-year-old man from Hamel who was struck and killed by a vehicle as he ran across Hwy. 55 in Medina Friday night.
Paul M. Piekarski was killed just before 9 p.m. when he ran north across Hwy. 55 at Pinto Drive and was struck by a westbound vehicle, police said.
Janet Ann McMullen, 55, of Hastings, the driver of the 2011 Nissan Rogue that struck him, was not hurt. She was wearing her seat belt and alcohol was not a factor, the State Patrol said.
While roads were wet at the time, it is not clear if weather played a role in the crash. The State Patrol continues to investigate.
