A pedestrian was fatally run over early Tuesday afternoon in Mounds View by a driver who fled the scene and got in another crash a couple of miles away, authorities said.
The fatal incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. in the 8200 block of Long Lake Road, according to Mounds View Police Chief Nate Harder.
The vehicle, a blue SUV with a "totally smashed in" windshield, was located soon afterward at a crash scene about 2 miles to the west in Spring Lake Park, according to emergency dispatch audio.
Harder said the second collision allowed law enforcement to arrest the driver.
Authorities have yet to identify the pedestrian or the suspect.
