A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Monday morning on I-94 in downtown St. Paul and later died at the hospital, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The victim, later identified as Walker Munson, 54, of Minneapolis, was hit while in the left lane of the eastbound lanes of the freeway at 10:56 a.m. near the John Ireland Blvd. He was taken to Regions Hospital and died there, the patrol said.

Christopher Garza, 24, the driver of the Toyota Camry that hit the victim was not hurt, nor was a 24-year-old passenger in his vehicle, the patrol said.

The freeway was closed for about an hour as authorities investigated the incident. All eastbound 94 traffic was diverted to the Kellogg Blvd. ramp then allowed to use the entrance ramp on the other side. A traffic jam formed back to near Hamline Avenue until the scene was cleared about 12:30 p.m.
