Pawlenty says Obama speech was apolitical, but potentially disruptive

President Obama "did a nice job with the content" in his school speech today, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said.

Last week, Pawlenty gave some support to those who objected to showing the president's speech in schools. Pawlenty had said then that the address was "uninvited" and was handled in a "ham-fisted" way, and he voiced some concerns about its potential content.

But today, Pawlenty said in a brief interview that he had reviewed a summary of the address, aired in many schools today at 11 a.m. Central time, and found it appropriately non-partisan and apolitical.

The Republican governor said he remained concerned that airing the speech on the first day of school in most districts was potentially disruptive.
