Patrol IDs man hit by pickup on hwy. shoulder in Maplewood and critically hurt

A man walking along an east metro highway after dark was hit by a pickup truck and critically hurt, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 7:10 p.m. Saturday on the shoulder of southbound Hwy. 120 south of 22nd Street N. in Maplewood, the State Patrol said.

David R. Ashlock, 68, of Hopkins, suffered life-threatening injuries and was being treated at Regions Hospital, said Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson.

Pickup driver Karl J. Buche, 56, of Maplewood, suffered noncritical injuries and also was hospitalized at Regions.
