PATERSON, N.J. — The mayor of Paterson is floating the idea of building a 22-story hotel complex with an unconventional design on cliffs near the Great Falls.
The hotel portion would be shaped like a giant cocoon in recognition of the city's industrial past, when its textile mills earned Paterson the name "Silk City."
The project would be built on the site of a failed condo project.
A conceptual design of the hotel and convention center on the city's website does not identify a potential developer.
Mayor Jeffery Jones told the Paterson Press he's not ready yet to disclose who is behind the proposal.
The project's location and design would make it a landmark building visible for many miles.
