A head-on crash involving a car that was attempting to pass another on a west-central Minnesota highway killed both drivers, authorities said Monday.

The collision occurred about 3:15 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 29 about 2 miles east of Deer Creek in Otter Tail County, according to the State Patrol.

A 31-year-old woman was westbound on Hwy. 29 with a 2-year-old passenger, when she crossed the centerline to pass and struck a small SUV, according to the patrol.

Both drivers were killed, while the child suffered noncritical injuries, the patrol said.

The woman and child are from Wadena, about 8 miles east of the crash scene. The SUV's driver is a 63-year-old woman from Parkers Prairie, Minn. Their names have yet to be released.
