A long swath of the eastern end of University Avenue will be closed to motor vehicles late Sunday morning and all afternoon for the St. Paul Open Streets festival.
The free festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will span the stretch from Hamline Avenue to Marion Street and feature the avenue's stores and restaurants.
There will be live music and dance at the Hamline light-rail station, Victoria Street and the Little Mekong area near Marion Street.
Activities will include family-style events, food specials, cooking demonstrations and tips on bicycle safety and maintenance. People can collect stamps from different vendors for the chance to win a new bicycle.
The festival follows part of the Central Corridor Green Line, slated to open next summer.
The north-south streets of Lexington Avenue, Victoria and Dale streets and Western Avenue will remain open during the festival.
