Parks say: 'Get out(doors)'

Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day, and in that spirit the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is hosting Take a Day OFF* at Powderhorn Park (*Outdoor Family Fun).

WHAT

Participants can get hands-on instructions in a variety of outdoor activities:

• Paddle a voyageur's canoe on Powderhorn Lake.

• Learn how to catch fish from shore.

• Experience "geocaching," a high-tech treasure hunt.

• Learn to set up a tent, start a fire and go camping.

• Go on a photo safari.

• Test your aim at the laser shooting range.

WHO

The event is co-sponsored by the park board, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the retailer REI.

WHERE, WHEN

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Powderhorn Park is on 35th Street between Bloomington and Chicago Avenues S.

HOW MUCH

There is no fee, and all equipment will be provided.
