A Park Rapids man has been indicted in federal court for allegedly using an air pistol to rob an Akeley, Minn., bank.

The April 13 bank robbery indictment against Edward Joseph Lowen, 54, was unsealed after he appeared in U.S. District Court in Bemidji on Tuesday.

According to documents in the case, Lowen walked into the First National Bank of Walker on Feb. 26 and pointed the air pistol at a teller, demanding money to put in a bag that he brought. He got away with more than $2,500, according to the indictment, and fled in a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Authorities released photos from the bank robbery and got tips linking it to Lowen, the U.S. attorney's office said, and he was arrested at his home in March.

Officials got warrants to search Lowen's home and Tahoe, where they found clothing and a bag similar to the robber's, as well as an air pistol manual, according to the documents in the case.
