Pair of teams take lead at MGA Four-Ball event

Two teams, made up of Rick Ehrmanntraut-Rob Wight and Steve Whittaker-Ray Sauer, both shot 7-under-par 65s to take the first-round lead of the MGA Senior Four-Ball Championship at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul on Monday.

In all, 21 Championship Division teams finished under par for the day. The tournament concludes Tuesday.

Etc. • The Gophers men's golf team was tied for fourth place, seven strokes off the lead, after the first day of the Fighting Irish Golf Classic in South Bend, Ind. Jon Trasamar leads the Gophers at 2 over par and is in fifth place, three shots behind individual leader Paul McConnell of Texas-Arlington. The tournament finishes Tuesday.
