Paddle sports, fishing basics are among parks programs

Activities at state and regional parks speak to the season.

Paddleboard lesson

Fish Lake Regional Park

6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday

Paddle sports

Hyland Lake Park Reserve

7-8:30 p.m., June 19 through Aug. 21

Learn new skills, refine your paddling technique, and get a workout. Paddle a different lake at a park each week, including Hyland Lake, Bryant Lake, Cleary Lake, Cedar Lake, Spring Lake and Lake Auburn. Some paddling experience recommended. Sports alternate between kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddleboard. Equipment provided. Cost is $130 for this 10-week program. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation. Bird banding

Lowry Nature Center

9 a.m. - noon Saturday

See wild songbirds up close as they are carefully trapped, studied, banded and released. Drop in anytime. This program is free and open to all ages. (763-694-7650, threeriversparks.org)

Fishing for beginners

Interstate State Park

3-4:30 p.m. Friday

Learn the basics with a park naturalist and then put the knowledge to the test. All equipment is provided. Meet at the park's canoe launch at 3 p.m. (651-465-5711, ext. 225, mndnr.gov)

River paddle

Fort Ridgely State Park

9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday
