The folks on the North Side of Minneapolis want you to know that there's an upside to all the bad stuff (mortgage fraud and foreclosures) that's happened in the many neighborhoods in this corner of the city. NOMI, as in NOrth MInneapolis, is a grass-roots neighborhood group that sponsors all kinds of promotional events for the neighborhood, namely those that promote homeownership.
To that end there's a North Side self-guided home tour that coincides with the Lowry Avenue Harvest Festival at Lowry and Penn Avenues. Both events are 1 to 3 p.m. on SATURDAY, Sept. 18. The focus of the tour is on demonstrating the affordability of the neighborhood's housing, especially former foreclosures that have been fixed up and renovated.
A completely renovated three-bedroom, one-bathroom house at 3301 Logan Avenue N. (pictured above), for example, is listed at $99,900 and would cost a buyer less than $750 a month including taxes and insurance. It's among about 30 others - many former foreclosures - that will be on the tour. They range from $79,900 to $169,900 - prices that offer a mortgage payment that's likely less expensive than rent.
