A man was found fatally stabbed outside a South St. Paul home early Wednesday, and another man with a sometimes violent history has been arrested, authorities said.

The victim was discovered by officers about 2 a.m. in the front yard of the home in the 400 block of 4th Avenue S., police said.

"Neither of these two men have any connection to this yard," said Police Cmdr. Brian Wicke, who declined to say how the victim ended up where he was found.

Emergency responders declared the victim dead at the scene. He had been stabbed in his upper body. He has not been identified.

Located nearby and arrested was a 30-year-old man from West St. Paul, Wicke said. Police described the two men as acquaintances. The suspect has been jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The suspect's criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for domestic abuse, drunken driving and assault, according to court records.
