Overdose, not murder-suicide, likely cause of Mounds View couple's deaths

February 23, 2011 at 4:01AM

Preliminary evidence shows that the Mounds View couple found dead in their rental home on Saturday did not die of a murder-suicide, said Mounds View Police Chief Tom Kinney.

It's probable that Dwight Herme, 50, and Christine Herme, 45, died of a drug overdose, Kinney said. It's unclear if the deaths were accidental or intentional. Narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found at the scene, Kinney said.

Relatives found the couple just before 3 p.m. in their home in the 8300 block of Red Oak Drive. They had not had contact with the couple since the previous weekend and were checking on their welfare.

Kinney said it's unclear how long they were dead when they were found. Toxicology reports on the couple will take several weeks, he said.
