Already the Twin Cities' most musical park with the Thursday night Music in Mears series and the upcoming Twin Cities Jazz Fest -- not to mention last year's neighboring Lowertown Music Fest -- Mears Park is going to be home to yet another cool shindig with the addition of the Lowertown Roots Music Festival the weekend of July 29-30. Iowa's cult-loved folk great Greg Brown, who just released a fine new album on Yep Roc Records, will headline the free event on July 30, with support from Minnesota's most in-demand bluegrass band Monroe Crossing. The event will spread out into venues around Lowertown on July 29, including the Black Dog Cafe. The full lineup has yet to be announced.

Some of Minneapolis' favorite free/annual/outdoor music bashes also recently announced their lineups:

*The Aug. 13 Pizza Luce Block Party will feature P.O.S., Communist Daughter, Me & My Arrow, Phantom Tails, the 4onthefloor, No Bird Sing, Justin Pierre's Farewell Continental and another new band led by Sean "Har Mar" Tillmann called Charles.

*The Bastille Day bash outside Barbette in Uptown has also taken shape for July 17 with Solid Gold, Rogue Valley, Pink Mink, Faux Jean, the Evening Rig and Brass Messengers.

*And look for Peter Wolf Crier, Chooglin', the Cloak Ax (led by Fog's Andrew Broder), Zoo Animal, Mike Mictlan, Romantica and (again) the4onthefloor to all perform at the Red Stag Supper Club Block Party in northeast Minneapolis on July 31.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
