Out to explore

London sightseeing

With my camera, map and a British play for class in hand, I set out to explore the city of London. My goal is to do some walking and find a place to read.

I take the tube and get off at the Piccadilly Circus station, touristy yet fun and lively. I check out a few souvenir shops and buy a few postcards. With a bounce in my step, I start walking observing the sites and sounds of London. Following the signs to Trafalgar Square, I come upon another lively area filled with tourists and Londoners on their lunch break. Whether taking pictures or sitting on the steps sipping a cup of coffee it seemed to be the place to be.

I continue to walk down Whitehall Street headed for Parliament Square. While en route, I stopped to get a picture with a London guard on his horse. I then come to Big Ben where there are detours and police officers directing traffic and telling onlookers the Pope will be coming through in a few hours. I walk a little ways ahead to snap a few pictures of the London Eye and Thames River. At this point I am greatly enjoying the views and beautiful weather in London that finding a place to read has completely escaped my mind, which leads me to where I am now. I am sitting in a dining room above a pub writing in my notebook and eating hot fish and chips and drinking a light lager. The reading can definitely wait until tomorrow!

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
