BURLINGTON, Wis. — A federal workplace-safety agency has cited Echo Lake Foods for alleged safety violations at its Burlington and Franksville frozen food plants.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed fines of $150,000 against Echo Lake Foods for 27 alleged violations.
OSHA received complaints alleging hazards with the ammonia refrigeration systems at those plants.
The agency alleges Echo Lake Foods failed to adequately train workers on ammonia hazards, compressors and safety procedures.
Echo Lake Foods general manager Jerry Warntjes (WARN'-jeez) says the company just received the citation and had no comment.
In January, fire at the company's Burlington plant caused an estimated $40 million in damage. The citation is not related to the fire. A second OSHA investigation into the fire was closed due to extensive damage to the plant.
