Twin Cities-based Oppidan Investment Co. is expanding its portfolio of senior housing projects, said Shannon Rusk, Oppidan's vice president of development and brokerage services.

"There is certainly a need for senior living facilities, and we acknowledged that at Oppidan by increasing our focus on development of this product type," she said.

Last week, the company acquired a pair of senior buildings in the Highland Park neighborhood in St. Paul, including the Highlands on Graham, a 72-unit independent living community and the Highlands at River Road, a 69-unit assisted living and memory care community that opened last September. Oppidan plans to rebrand those buildings as the Highlands of St. Paul.

In early April, Oppidan completed construction of White Bear Heights Senior Living in White Bear Lake, a three-story, 138,000-square-foot development with 112 independent, assisted living and memory care units.

The company also has several projects under construction, including:

• Shorewood Landing Senior Living in Shorewood, a 105-unit memory care, independent and assisted living facility that is expected to be completed by this winter.

• Prairie Winds Senior Living in Mankato is a 118-unit independent, assisted living and memory care facility that will start construction this summer.
