Opening updates: Butcher & the Boar, Devil's Advocate

The expected opening dates for these two downtown Minneapolis bar/restaurants keep getting pushed back. Here's the latest.

Opening dates are never set in stone. One of the season's most anticipated bar/restaurants, Butcher & the Boar, was shooting for an early February debut. Now chef/owner Jack Riebel (pictured) tells me he's hoping to open to the public on March 8. (the bar's Facebook page still says March 6, however.) A lot of people are eagerly awaiting this bourbon/beer/meat palace. So stay tuned. Here's one more update: Erik Forsberg says his gastropub, Devil's Advocate, will open in early to mid April. The former owner of the Ugly Mug was hoping for a February opening in the old Inn/Subo/Hell's Kitchen space. He said permit delays are to blame for the late start.

I wrote about both spots last month in my mid-winter preview (read it here).

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat. It’s too soon to tell how much the immigration crackdown is to blame.
