The Traveler: Austin Indritz of Roseville

Indritz and a friend spent a week hiking in Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks in October. "These unique times compel people to remain indoors while forgetting there can be safety and immense beauty outdoors," he wrote in an e-mail. Immense is the word to describe the parks in southern Utah's arid landscape. Zion alone has 229 square miles. "I had never been to this part of the country and it is easy to admit that the natural beauty leaves you breathless (not the hiking). Our days would typically start before dawn and last until midafternoon," wrote Indritz, who shot this image with a cellphone.
