Why We Laugh

Opens Saturday: Playwright Kira Obolensky has adapted a cabaret written by artists in the World War II ghetto at Terezin, Czechoslovakia. The Terezin cabaret was discovered in 2005, in documents found in family archives. Germans used the ghetto for propaganda purposes to show a "model Jewish settlement." In reality, it was a concentration camp where thousands died. Craig Harris will be musical director and Hayley Finn stages the production. Skyler Nowinski, Elise Langer, Ryan Lindberg and Julie Kurtz perform the piece. (8 p.m. Sat. & Thu., 2 p.m. Sun. Ends Sept. 27; Open Eye Figure Theatre, 506 E. 24th St., Mpls. $15-$20. 1-800-838-3006 or www.fortunesfooltheatre.org)

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
