Online effort focuses on Minneapolis budget cuts

February 4, 2009 at 1:58AM

Minneapolis has launched a new Web page to provide background for residents on the city's pending budget cuts and to ask them for their priorities in making those cuts.

A brief survey asks people to list their highest and lowest priorities among city services that rely mostly on property taxes and state aid to local government. It also seeks money-saving ideas.

The city's rebudgeting effort has been sparked by a $13 million cut in state aid announced by Gov. Tim Pawlenty in December and by more cuts the Legislature is expected to consider to balance the state budget.

The budget information and survey are available at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/finance/2009budget.asp.
