A vehicle rolled over and caught fire in Cottage Grove late at night over the weekend, leaving its lone occupant dead, authorities said.

The crash was discovered about 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Innovation Road, just south of Hwy. 61, by emergency personnel dispatched to the scene, police said.

They discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames in a field, with one person dead inside.

The Ramsey County medical examiner's office had not released the victim's identity Sunday.

"Our responders did a great job and the frigid weather made this incident even much more difficult," the police statement said.
