Two motorcyclists died in two days in crashes on suburban streets.

In the first instance, a motorcyclist was killed after he rear-ended another motorcycle on a Richfield street just west of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, authorities said Friday.

The collision occurred about 8:20 p.m. Thursday on southbound Cedar Avenue, just north of 66th Street, according to the State Patrol.

Killed was Cleaveroy D. Benjamin, 28, of Bloomington, the patrol said. The other motorcyclist, Maikessea A. Washington, 37, of Brooklyn Park, was not hurt.

Two years ago, Benjamin was ticketed for following a vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent. He was found guilty and paid $278 in fines and fees.

The patrol hadn't said Friday whether the two motorcycles were riding together.

In the second instance, a motorcyclist died Friday after he crashed his bike while fleeing police in Woodbury.

According to the State Patrol, Robert Dennis Davis, 30, of Madison Lake, Minn., was driving erratically in the vicinity of Hwy. 61 and Kingsborough Trail in Cottage Grove. Several motorists called police just before 8 a.m. to report the dangerous driving.

A trooper caught up with Davis near Hwy. 61 and Lower Afton Road and attempted to stop him. Davis drove onto eastbound Lower Afton Road and was driving fast when he crashed his 1993 Honda Cycle into a grove of trees near Valley Creek Road and Century Avenue, said Lt. Eric Roeske.

Davis was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died Friday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation.
