A gunman who killed his roommate with three gunshots to the head in a western Hennepin County home was mum about a motive, according to murder charges filed against him.

Steven Fredrick Endsley, 54, of Corcoran was charged Monday in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting in his mobile home in the 7800 block of Maple Hill Road.

Endsley was arrested at the scene Thursday and remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail ahead of a court appearance on Jan. 16.

Police identified the victim as 52-year-old Chad Tech Huntington.

According to the criminal complaint:

A request to check on Huntington’s welfare sent police to the mobile home on Dec. 10. Officers got no response at the residence and left.

Police returned the next day and saw that two snow-covered vehicles in the drive had not moved since the officers’ initial visit.

The officers forced their way in through a door that had been screwed shut from the inside with a piece of wood.

They found Huntington face down and “obviously deceased” on a bedroom floor. He had three shots to the back of the head, with two of them at close range.

Endsley was in the bathroom holding a loaded rifle.

After his arrest, Endsley said he didn’t remember shooting his roommate, but “it couldn’t have been anyone else,” the complaint read.

The officers asked him why he shot Huntington, and he said “he didn’t want to tell them,” the complaint continued.
