One killed, one hurt in crash on snowy, icy highway near St. Peter

Roads were snow covered and icy when the crash occurred Thursday afternoon

A man from St. Peter, Minn., was killed when his vehicle slid off a snowy and icy road Thursday afternoon in Le Sueur County, the State Patrol said.

Richard Anthony Okoneski, 60, was driving west on Hwy. 99 during wintry conditions when he lost control of his vehicle near County Road 91 in Kasota Township. The vehicle slid into the ditch and collided with a tree about 2:20 p.m., the patrol said.

Okoneski, who died at the scene, was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

A passenger in his vehicle, Margie Ann Okoneski, 55, of St. Paul, sustained life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato for treatment. She was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
