One killed in northern Minnesota crash

The crash took place on Hwy. 2 near Warba, Minn.

A man from Deer River, Minn., was killed Sunday night in a head-on crash in Itasca County, the State Patrol said.

Adam Holecek was driving west on Hwy. 2 just east of Warba when he crossed over the centerline and struck an eastbound Cheverolet Silverado pickup truck head-on around 8:10 p.m., the patrol said.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch, the patrol said.

Holecek, 30, died at the scene, A passenger in his car, Brian Watson, 22, of Grand Rapids, was taken to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was being treated for non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as Shawn Springer, 38, of Superior, Wis., was not seriously hurt.

Holecek was wearing a seat belt. Springer was not and it was not known if Watson was belted in, the patrol.

The pavement on the two-lane highway was dry at the time of the crash, which is under investigation.
