One person was killed and four others were injured in a crash in Plymouth on Thursday afternoon.

Plymouth police and fire department personnel were called to the scene at Hwy. 55 and Northwest Boulevard at 2:46 p.m., according to a news release. Two vehicles crashed at the intersection, then two other vehicles crashed into those.

A passenger in one of the primary vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people in that car and one in the other primary vehicle were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. There were no injuries among the people in the other two vehicles, said Plymouth police Capt. Mike Reed.

That intersection is controlled by four-way stoplights. Reed did not have any information about what caused the crash.

Surrounding roads were closed for several hours, but all were open by about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The State Patrol was asked to help with accident reconstruction.

The victim's name has not been released.
