Today's trophy tales

Tyler Hong, Mankato • 55-inch muskie • metro-area lake

Just a few minutes before noon on July 8, Hong, fishing with friend Austin MacLeod of Victoria, reeled in this muskie after a short but fierce fight. The fish, above, ate a black and red bucktail jig over 100 feet out on the cast. The fish was released.

SECRET WEAPON

Clara Ekegren Schmid, 9, of St. Paul, caught this 7-pound, 9-ounce northern on Woman Lake near Longville on July 15 while trolling with her grandfather Gene Schmidís secret weapon lure. She won the kidís fishing contest at Broadwater Lodge with this catch.
