A man has died after a boat he was in capsized on the Mississippi River in Monticello, Minn.
Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, dispatchers were called about a capsized fishing boat on the Mississippi near the Xcel Energy nuclear power plant, according to Capt. Ryan Ferguson of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Three men were reported to have fallen into the water.
Two of the victims were found on shore; however, the third man was discovered unresponsive in the water and was brought to shore by Xcel Energy workers. He was declared dead by medical personnel.
The man who died was identified Wednesday as Tyler Tasche, 28, of Monticello by the Sheriff’s Office.
A GoFundMe established by his family said Tasche was “an incredible father and friend.” Tasche is survived by his wife and four kids.
“Tyler went fishing early this morning with his younger brother Tristan and his grandpa in Monticello,” according to the fundraising page. “The boat ended up flipping and everyone went down, Tristan and grandpa were able to come back up but Tyler unfortunately got stuck and didn’t make it.”
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.
