A one-vehicle crash on an icy highway in north central Minnesota Monday killed a woman from Solway, Minn., the State Patrol said.

Claudia Leiby, 51, was the lone occupant of a 2002 Ford pickup that spun out about 10:40 a.m. on Hwy. 2 near 3rd Street in Wilton, Minn., which is west of Bemidji in Beltrami County. Leiby was driving east on Hwy. 2 when she lost control of the truck, which entered the south ditch and rolled, said Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the State Patrol.

Leiby was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Snow-covered roads played a role in more than 688 crashes statewide on Monday, the patrol said.

Leiby was the only fatality, but 59 other people were hurt in wrecks. The patrol also responded to 444 vehicles that spun out or went off the road and nine semitrailer trucks that jackknifed.
