The Twins have ditched the closer by committee idea after less than a week, and have chosen to use Jon Rauch to shut the door this season.

"We're going with Rauch as our closer," manager Ron Gardenhire explained. "This way we kind of let everybody else know where they are at. We've always had a good setup [in the bullpen] where everybody knows their roles. If guys know their roles out there, the system works."

The giant, tattooed, 31-year-old reliever has a bit of experience in the closer role, having compiled 26 career saves, including 17 with the Washington Nationals in 2008. Since he is the tallest guy to ever play baseball, he had enough room on his spine to tattoo the date of September 7, 2001, which is his wedding anniversary.

What a guy.

Also, Span hit the first Twins bomb ever at Target Field this evening in the third inning off former Twin Kyle Lohse... after scoring the very first Twins run ever at Target Field in the bottom of the first. Spantastic.
