Olive oil gets 3-year-old boy out of a tight spot

June 28, 2011 at 2:37AM

A 911 call early Sunday evening from the city's North Side required some ingenuity -- and some olive oil -- to fix, police said. A 3-year-old boy had gotten his head stuck between two posts in a railing on a second-floor balcony, said department spokesman Sgt. Steve McCarty. Rather than force him free, someone in his family called for help.

Officers Danielle Evans and Anthony Smith went to the family's apartment at 1221 Banneker Ave. N. Using a liberal coating of olive oil, they were able to slip the boy's head out of the railing. He was not injured.
