It's definitely a talker.
The incredible rack from the world-class 8-point buck that was poached near Cannon Falls in 2009 will be on display at this year's 30th annual Minnesota Deer Classic, which opens Friday at the State Fair Coliseum.
"We're going to have it there whenever a conservation officer is present at our booth," said Rod Smith, DNR assistant enforcement director. "We can't leave it there and walk away, it's too valuable. And we'll take it each day when we leave."
The rack (shown at right) should draw plenty of attention. "Pictures don't do it justice," Smith said. "You have to see it in real life."
The agency still is trying to decide what to do with the antlers long-term. One option -- selling them -- has drawn some negative response.
