Officer involved shooting ends with man, police K-9 dead in Duluth, officer injured
Officers responded to a call about a domestic assault with a weapon at a home on Skyline Parkway. A man was holed up inside a residence and, after an hour of negotiations, fired at police. One officer, identified as Aaron Haller, was struck and his K-9 partner, Haas, was killed, a statement from the Duluth Police Department said.
Police returned fire and entered the residence, where they found the man dead, the statement said.
Haller was taken to a hospital for treatment and released, police said.
"As a community, let's put our arms around and show our support for officer Aaron Haller, his dedicated K-9 partner Haas, and our DPD family to find peace in the days ahead," said Duluth Police Chief Mike Tusken. "Officer Haller is home resting with family and Haas will forever rest in peace as a hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice keeping his police officer partners safe."
Several departments from across the county were posting condolences on social media.
The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will investigate.
