Crow Wing County authorities charged a Brainerd teenager Tuesday with second-degree intentional murder in the weekend shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.
Police say Darrick J. Bellecourt, 17, shot Zackrey J. Peterson, 15, about 9:40 p.m. Sunday while they argued at an apartment in downtown Brainerd over stolen property.
A preliminary autopsy report released Tuesday said Peterson was shot in the chest, abdomen and right arm.
Police Chief John Bolduc said the boys, who knew each other, were among eight or nine teenagers at the apartment at the time of the shooting.
He said the argument started when Peterson, a sophomore at Brainerd High School, and others confronted Bellecourt about some stolen property, including a video-game console belonging to one of Peterson's friends. The disagreement escalated into pushing, and Bellecourt pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, Bolduc said. He fled.
Police arrested him about five hours later after receiving a tip to his whereabouts from one of his relatives.
Bellecourt is being held in the Central Minnesota Juvenile Center. He is scheduled to make a court appearance at 1 p.m. today.
