Obnoxiously Cold in the South

April 7, 2009 at 12:30PM

It's less than a week before Easter. Trees are budding everywhere and leavesare beginning to unfurl... and snowflakes are flying in the Atlanta area? That's right, snow -- a few wet snowflakes have mixed in with the rain just tothe northwest of Atlanta. More flakes are possible as we go through the morninghours.Across the southern Appalachians, several inches of snow may accumulateabove 3,000 feet with lesser amounts in the valleys.

This is all due to an arctic air mass which has charged southward and, likean unwelcome guest, will have you wishing you were elsewhere. Winds gusting to30 mph or greater with temperatures in the 40s and 50s are in store today, sobundle up, winter still has some fight left in it.

I can't imagine what baseball practice will be like after school in Alabamaand Georgia. My hands hurt just thinking about it.
