Services are Tuesday afternoon in Columbia Heights for former standout Iowa Hawkeye lineman Bill Anderson, who died after falling down stairs in his Twin Cities home.
Anderson, 44, was a 1985 graduate of Columbia Heights High School, where he was captain of the football team and an All-American.
He played center for four seasons under the legendary Hayden Fry at Iowa, rose to captain and was honorable mention All-Big Ten his last two years. The Hawkeyes were 30-15-3 in Anderson's four seasons there and went to three bowl games.
He was drafted in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears, released late in training camp and did not crack the NFL.
At the time of his death on May 24, Anderson was living in Fridley and working for a circuit supply company.
Survivors include his parents, Dick and Trudie Anderson, of Fridley; and brothers John, Jim and Bob Anderson.
Visitation is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at Washburn-McReavy Columbia Heights Chapel, Central Av. NE., with services to immediately follow.
