Obama visit will disrupt traffic, alter transit

Road closures and detours will kick in at noon. Bus routes will be on detour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

President Obama will detail his four-year $302 billion proposal that calls for building, fixing or maintaining thousands of miles of roads and rail lines during a stop at downtown St. Paul's Union Depot.

His speech, part of his "year of action" tour, is scheduled for early this afternoon.

Detours in downtown St. Paul will begin at noon, according to the St. Paul Police Department. No specifics have been announced.

Metro Transit and MVTA buses will be on detour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Here are the affected routes.

Route 53:

The first westbound trip ONLY will leave from 8th St between Olive and Lafayette, turn right on Lafayette, right on 7th St, left on Wall, right on 6th St and resume regular routing. Please board westbound buses on 6th St just past Wacouta.

Routes 61, 64, 74 & 860:

Eastbound/northbound buses (westbound Route 61) will travel regular route on 5th St to Sibley, left on Sibley, right on 7th St and resume regular routing. Please board eastbound buses on 5th St & Jackson.

Westbound buses (eastbound Route 61) will travel regular route.

Route 63:

Eastbound buses will travel regular route on 5th St to Sibley, left on Sibley, right on 7th St, right on Mounds Blvd, left on 3rd St and resume regular routing. Please board eastbound buses on 5th St & Jackson.

Westbound buses will travel regular route on 3rd St to Mounds Blvd, right on Mounds Blvd, left on 7th St, left on Wall, right on 6th St and resume regular routing.

Route 70:

Eastbound buses will travel regular route on 5th St to Sibley, left on Sibley, right on 7th St, right on Mounds Blvd and resume regular routing. Please board eastbound buses on 5th St & Jackson.

Westbound buses will travel regular route on Mounds Blvd to 3rd St/Kellogg, continue on Mounds Blvd to 7th St, left on 7th St, left on Wall, right on 6th St and resume regular routing.

Route 262:

The first northbound trip will leave from 4th St & Wabasha, turn right on Wabasha, right on 5th St, right on Robert, right on Kellogg and resume regular routing. Please catch northbound buses on westbound Kellogg & Minnesota.

Routes 294, 350, 351, 361 & 364:

Eastbound buses will travel regular route on 5th St to Sibley, left on Sibley, right on 7th St, right on Mounds Blvd onto eastbound I-94 and resume regular routing. Please board eastbound buses on 5th St & Jackson.

Westbound buses will travel regular route.
