OBAMA TRIES TO MEDIATE END TO VIOLENCE
Between campaign stops, Democratic front-runner Barack Obama has been making calls for the past week regarding the presidential election and resulting violence in his father's homeland of Kenya. Obama spoke to opposition leader Raila Odinga for about five minutes on Monday and was trying to reach President Mwai Kibaki on Tuesday. "What I urged was that all the leaders there, regardless of their position on the election, tell their supporters to stand down, to desist with the violence," Obama said.
