Looking to get away and do some bird watching? Or maybe you're just looking to get away. Lake Osakis was just named the top bird watching spot in Minnesota by the DNR. Located in Osakis, MN, this prime bird watching spot is also a great place for vacationing during the summer. There are plentiful resorts and hotels in the area available at a wide price range. Most places have watercraft rentals available, which offer another vantage point from which to bird watch. Loons are a common sight at Lake Osakis, among dozens of other species to look for.

Although I am not much for birding, my wife is. She is always looking for the next place to bird watch. Although northern Minnesota is one of her favorite places to bird watch, she loves that there are several hot spots for birders in the Twin Cities. Not only that, but she doesn't have to go alone. There are organized trips for people who want to go birding in Minneapolis. You can bird watch with a Park and Recreation Board naturalist among other birders, and the cost is only $5. There are several dates and locations to choose from on the board's website, but the bird watching trips require pre-registration.
